Pay Attention to the Unseen: Addressing Mental Health in the Direct Care Workforce

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial time to shed light on the importance of mental health, particularly in the direct care workforce. According to the 2022-2023 Direct Care Workforce Report, Direct Care Workers are three times more likely to grapple with anxiety and depression compared to the average U.S. population. This statistic is not just alarming but also a call to action.

Given the gravity of this issue, we recently hosted an in-depth educational webinar dedicated to addressing mental health in the direct care workforce. Designed specifically for home care agency and senior living owners, operators, and HR, the webinar offers valuable insights into caregiver wellness from the perspective of workforce dynamics.

The webinar was led by Nick Fischer, Executive Director of Workforce at MissionCare Collective, and Sue Wiebe, MissionCare Collective’s Chief Clinical Officer. Fischer, formerly with the Red Cross, has a deep understanding of workforce management. Wiebe, an RN with over 20 years of experience, has dedicated her career to helping teams and employers build healthier companies.

During the webinar, our experts explored:

  • The latest workforce trends, including an introduction to the seven personas working in care.
  • The silent healthcare crisis' impact on performance, and how it may vary across different personas.
  • Considerations for supportive services and tools that help build a resilient team and contribute to a healthier bottom line.

Supported caregivers deliver more care, better care, and better outcomes. Want to learn more? Watch the webinar replay here.
